Step 1 - School Tour

Tours are organised to take place in March, April and May each year.

This is an opportunity for families to visit St Joseph the Worker and see learning in action at our school. On these tours we visit classrooms and chat with students about life and learning at our school.

Please contact the office to join a tour. Enrolments for the following year close at the end of May. Families will receive a letter of offer from the school in early June and parents accept this offer by returning the form, signed and dated.

Step 2 - Interview

In Term 3, interviews with the principal are organised with each Prep child and their parent/s. This is an opportunity for the incoming Prep students to meet with the principal and for parents to share their knowledge about how we can work together to support their child.

Step 3 - Kinder Visit

In early Term 4, teachers at St Joseph the Worker visit local kindergartens to meet and observe our future prep students.

We greatly value the opportunity to observe our future prep students at play and engaged in learning within the kindergarten session.

Step 4 - Orientation

Our Orientation Program commences with two comprehensive transition sessions for all enrolled future prep students and their families during Term 4. Families are informed of these dates in advance to ensure that all students can participate in orientation, and we have an opportunity to meet with families and provide further information about our school. This opportunity to work together is important to ensure the smooth transition of students into our school environment.

Whilst onsite for orientation, students are given the opportunity to become familiar with the school, get to know their peers and staff and begin to develop a connection with our community.

Step 5 - Parent Information Session

Whilst students are engaged in orientation, parent information sessions are held in the hall to provide prep parents with an overview of our school, our curriculum and general information about teaching and learning at St Joseph the Worker. This is an opportunity to work together with the leadership team at St Joseph the Worker, meet other new parents and learn about our school and how it operates.

Hear From Our Community

Testimonials

I like to do writing and make good sentences. I like my teacher and making new friends.

I like doing learning. I like sounding letters out. I like reading books.

Ari, Student

My daughter started at St.Josepth's the worker last year. From the first day I stepped foot into the school I felt welcomed.  The teachers are so professional and nurturing. They really got to know my daughter and what best suited her learning and well-being. Learning, life and faith (LLF) had really made Jesus's real in our lives and my daughter understanding what it means to make Jesus real.

I am so thrilled I chose this school.

Hear from our parents

The St Joseph the Worker community is warm and welcoming. It provides families with a sense of belonging, a place where parent and carer involvement is encouraged and valued in the true spirit of working together.

In my opinion, the most important aspect when choosing a school is knowing that when I drop my children off each day, they are happy, safe and excited to learn. To me it is evident that Maria and the staff at St Joseph the Worker endeavour to provide this environment for all children.

St Joseph the Worker Primary School is culturally inclusive of everyone in our community and promotes the safety and wellbeing of all children in our community.

St Joseph the Worker Primary School is a school which operates with the consent of the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne and is operated and governed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS).

MACS governs and operates Catholic schools in the Archdiocese to continue the mission of Catholic education to proclaim the Good News and equip our young people with the knowledge, skills, and hope to live meaningful lives and enrich the world around them.

Because the good work of educating the young is a co-responsible task led by every member of the Catholic school community, School Advisory Councils have been established to provide a crucial point of connection between the wider school community and school leaders. This governance model was designed to ease the administrative burden on our schools and parishes, allow parish priests to focus on the mission of education in the parish, enable greater collaboration between schools and ensure greater consistency in school policies and procedures.

More information about MACS is available at www.macs.vic.edu.au

Democratic Principles

At St Joseph the Worker Primary School we recognise that the school plays a vital role in advancing democratic ideals and principles. For democracy to continue to thrive, children must be taught democratic ideals and principles and to value its way of life. St Joseph the Worker Primary School will explicitly and implicitly support and promote the principles of Australian democracy, including a commitment to:

·   elected government

·   the rule of law

·   equal rights for all before the law

·   freedom of religion

·   freedom of speech and association

·   the values of openness and tolerance.

Through our curricular and extracurricular programs,  St Joseph the Worker Primary School will prepare our children to become citizens who will preserve and shape democracy in the future. Democratic values will be taught explicitly in the curriculum and implicitly in the child’s experience of the school, from classroom practice, and from what is taught to how it is taught.
